Reading swoop for defender Nia - 2 Jul 2015 - Women's Football NewsReading FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Nia Jones from FA Women's Premier League side Cardiff City Ladies. 
 
Nia, a 23-year-old central defender, comes from Llanfynydd near Wrexham, North Wales. Having played for Northop Hall Girls as a youth player she moved to Cardiff City Ladies in 2010 to play senior football in the Premier League.
 
She has a breadth of International experience, having captained the Welsh Under-17 and Under-19 sides before scoring on her senior debut against Bulgaria at the age of 18. She is a key member of former Royals boss Jayne Ludlow's Welsh senior squad with 24 caps to her name.
 
Her International experience also spreads to the sport of netball. She plays Club Netball for Celtic Dragons, who play in the National Superleague on Sky Sports, and she is also a Welsh international, representing her country at 2013 European Championships as well as being a member of the squad at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
 
On signing for the Royals, Nia said: "I am really looking forward to being a part of one the Super League's most exciting clubs. The set up is very professional and Reading's results so far in WSL2 are a direct reflection of the commitment the girls and the coaches are putting in.
 
"They have a strong squad in place so I am excited for the challenge of contributing in any way I can to help them achieve the promotion they deserve."
 
Manager Kelly Chambers added: "Nia is a very competitive athlete with great experience across the national and international scenes of football and netball. She is a great addition to my very competitive squad and I'm looking forward to bringing the best out of Nia."
