QPR announce Belgian friendlies
 Women's Football News 8 Jul 2015

QPR announce Belgian friendlies - 8 Jul 2015 - Women's Football NewsQueen's Park Rangers can confirm the two sides they will face during the R's pre-season tour of Belgium in August.

Rangers will kick off proceedings against Belgian National First Division side DV Famkes Merkem on Friday 7th August before concluding their trip to Ostend against National Third Division outfit SK Staden on Sunday 9th August.

Meanwhile, Martino Chevannes' side - who return to pre-season training on Thursday - will train at the home of KSV Bredene during their five-day stay on the Belgian coast.

The trip precedes a second successive term in the FA Women's Premier League, which begins later the same month, as Rangers aim to improve on last season's ninth place finish. Chevannes knows the trip will be crucial ahead of the new campaign - both on and off the pitch - telling www.qprlfc.co.uk: "It's massively important. It gives you the opportunity to work with the players over a prolonged period of time. We'll have good quality facilities to train at as well as matches against some strong opposition.

"We'll be looking at different formations, seeing which one suits us best, and working on our style of play. Having that group away for a period of time means we can work on things like that."

Rangers have toured previously in Belgium, and Chevannes admits past experiences have taught the benefits of taking the team on the road.

"When I look at past seasons where we've gone away, we've come back better prepared and started the season fairly well," he said. "Hopefully that will be the case again this time around.

"We are hopeful of strengthening the squad during the summer and the tour will be crucial for the group to get to know each other and integrate.

"It will also help form a team spirit and sense of togetherness. It's another step in the right direction of having a more professional approach which will hopefully rub off on the players.

"I'm really looking forward to it and I'm sure they are too."

Chevannes and co depart for Belgium on Thursday 6th August.
