Gibbons was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma in January and underwent the surgery to successfully remove the tumour earlier this week.
She will now be unavailable for the next few months to recover and will be targeting a return to action for the Reds' UEFA Women's Champions League campaign later in the year.
Reds manager Matt Beard said: "Both myself and the players have known about Danielle's tumour for a while but have kept it to ourselves at the request of Danielle and her family.
