Notts County 2 (Clarke 14, Whelan 90) Birmingham City 1 (Allen 43) Notts County got their Continental Tyres Cup campaign off to a winning start with a last minute win over Birmingham City. After a cagey opening to proceedings, Jess Clarke broke the deadlock after 15 minutes, capitalising on a defensive slip up to slot past Rebecca Spencer in the Birmingham goal. Kirsty Linnett threatened for Birmingham on the half hour and right before half time they got a deserved equaliser, Allen turning the ball past Notts County's on-loan goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain. County boss Rick Passmoor called on Dunia Susi and Rachel Williams early in the second half and they continued to set the tone, with Leanne Crichton blazing over from the edge of the box. Jo Potter then sent a free kick over the bar for Birmingham but they were stung at the death, Susi picking out Whelan with a pinpoint cross in the third minute of added time and she headed past Spencer to seal the points.
