Everton 0 Liverpool 2 (Dowie 1,60)
Liverpool started their FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby match.
Natasha Dowie kept up her remarkable scoring record in the meetings between the two clubs and she netted both goals and had another two ruled out for offside in front of 1,073 fans inside the Select Security Stadium.
The Reds took the lead as early as the first minute when a disastrous backpass from Vicky Jones put Dowie clean through to score. Michelle Hinnigan hit the post for Everton in the first half but the Toffees had Kirstie Levell to thank for ensuring they only went into the break a solitary goal behind with a couple of saves.
Dowie had the first of her disallowed goals ruled out for offside nine minutes after the restart but made no mistake on the hour mark when indecision in the Everton defence allowed her to slot home from six yards. The Reds striker was again denied a hat-trick by the offside flag with 20 minutes remaining.
