Two out of two for Coventry
 Women's Football News 24 Aug 2015

Two out of two for Coventry - 24 Aug 2015 - Women's Football NewsCoventry Utd have a lead of two points after becoming the only club in the Southern Division so far to win both of their opening games.

They took the lead on the quarter hour against Queen's Park Rangers when Maz Gauntlett scored from the penalty spot and Dani Selmes headed in the second from a corner. Annabel Johnson rounded off a 3-0 win with a superb strike midway through the second half.

Brighton & Hove Albion stay in second place after their meeting with Charlton Athletic finished goalless. The match was a closely fought affair with both sides hitting the woodwork and goalkeepers Megen Lynch and Faye Baker in excellent form.

C & K Basildon registered their first victory in the division following promotion, a fine 1-0 success away to Tottenham Hotspur. Zoe Rushen scored the only goal of the game via a first half free kick.

Cardiff City Ladies notched up their first victory in style, scoring five times without reply against Lewes. Kerry Bartlett opened the scoring just before the half hour and from then on it was the Hope Suominen show, the midfielder bagging a four-goal haul to complete a good day for the South Wales side.

Forest Green Rovers and Plymouth Argyle each claimed their first point after sharing a thrilling 3-3 draw. Argyle took an early lead through Kayley Lane with Charlotte King equalising moments later. Laura Perrett and Jessie Jones then scored in quick succession to send Plymouth into a 3-1 lead but Forest Green were back in the game before half time, thanks to a strike from Ella Hitchcox. After the break, Plymouth had a goal disallowed and also struck the bar but a late rally from Forest Green, during which King and Hannah Hale both went close, finally brought reward in injury time when Hitchcox slid in her second from close range.
