Newcastle keep up good start
 Women's Football News 24 Aug 2015
Newcastle Utd continued their impressive start to the new campaign by beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 and holding on to the leadership of the fledgling Northern Division table.
Beth Gardener gave Newcastle the lead shortly before half time and although Jess Holbrook equalised for Rovers a minute later, the Magpies were not to be denied and Claire Pitt netted what proved to be the winner with seventeen minutes remaining.
Derby County are in second place after returning from Nuneaton Town with a 4-1 victory under their belts. Melissa Johnson and Lorna Abbey both found the net inside the opening twelve minutes and Johnson netted her second early after the interval. Clare Williamson pulled one back for Nuneaton but Johnson went on to round off the win by completing her hat-trick, midway through the second half.
Sporting Club Albion complete a trio of clubs on six points as they won 3-2 for the second successive week, this time against Preston North End. Albion had to do it the hard way, Keeleigh Savage netting a goal in each half to put Preston two goals ahead but Abi Cottam quickly pulled one back and Hazzana Parnell levelled matters with fifteen minutes remaining. As the game went into injury time, the comeback was complete when Ellie Clarke scored from a free kick to hand Albion the three points.
Huddersfield Town made the short trip to Guiseley AFC Vixens and picked up their first win of the season, scoring seven times without reply past the home side. Emily Heckler kept up her fantastic start to the new campaign, following up her hat-trick seven days previously with a four-goal haul to spearhead the win while Kate Mallin, Shaunna Jein and Samantha Conroy all weighed in with a goal apiece.
Stoke City also moved onto four points by recording their first win, 2-0 against Loughborough Foxes. Laura Garside gave Stoke the lead and they went on to secure the points when Kate Asher scored the second goal.
Bradford City bounced back from an opening day defeat to notch up their first points when beating Nottingham Forest 3-0, Hannah Campbell bagging a brace and Sarah Danby joining her on the scoresheet.
