Everton 0 Manchester City 2 (Duggan 19, Stanway 88)
Everton were defeated 2-0 by Manchester City in their Continental Tyres Cup clash at the Select Security Stadium, the result securing a place for City in the quarter finals.

Former Blue Girls striker Toni Duggan netted midway through the first half to put the visitors in front with substitute Georgia Stanway slotting past Megan Walsh late on to secure the three points for the visitor.

Nicola Anderson's side had the best of the early chances. Smart build up play from Simone Magill and Michelle Hinnigan released Dan Turner into the penalty area but her shot was well saved by Karen Bardsley. The Blue Girls continued to put pressure on the City goal and Stewart headed narrowly over from Hinnigan's whipped corner.

Minutes later, however, the visitors took the lead. Former Everton forward Toni Duggan cut inside Danielle Lea before unleashing a powerful right foot drive low past Walsh.

Soon after the away side almost doubled their advantage when Jill Scott, another former Blue, broke free into the Everton box only for her shot to clip the post and trickle wide.City began to build momentum and Duggan combined well with Scott only for her effort to also bounce back off the frame of the goal.

After an open first forty five minutes, the second half was a much tighter affair with a limited amount of chances as both sides cancelled each other out.Magill went closest for the Blue Girls in the latter stages of the fixture, firing over from inside the penalty area.

Late on City captain Steph Houghton rattled the crossbar with a thunderous free kick from distance before Stanway nudged the ball past the onrushing Walsh to seal the victory for the away side.
