Villa snatch late point
 Women's Football News 6 Sep 2015

Everton 1 (King 73) Aston Villa 1 (Fergusson 90)
A last gasp Aston Villa equaliser from Olivia Fergusson snatched the three points away for Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Jess King's strike, her first touch after coming on as a substitute, midway through the second half had opened the scoring for the Blue Girls' before Fergusson's glancing header in the 90th minute ensured the points were shared.

Everton started brightly with the game's first chance coming through winger Emily Hollinshead who cut in from the right and fired in a shot which was well saved by Aston Villa keeper Caitlin Leach.

The Blue Girls continued their early pressure with Paige Williams the next to threaten the visitors' goal, unleashing a fierce strike from distance which flew just wide of the top corner.

Midway through the first half Hollinshead was again involved in a Blue Girls attack, nearly latching onto Dan Turner's low cross only to be superbly tackled by Villa defender Hannah George.

Villa's first chance of note came late on in the first half when Mollie Rouse pounced on a poor touch from Williams but the Everton left back tackled back well to prevent the away side from taking the lead.

After the restart Villa started to pose more of a threat following the introduction of Olivia Fergusson and Katie Wilkinson shortly after the break. Fergusson almost put her side in front when after a Villa counter attack the ball fell to her in the Blue Girls penalty area and she managed to turn Ellie Stewart only for the Everton centre half to recover and produce a superb last ditch sliding tackle.

Everton responded well through an excellent driving run from Gabby George who played a neat one two with Lauren Davies but Leach raced off her line and just beat the Blue Girls centre back to the ball.

Soon after, King, a second half substitute, got the opener for Everton turning in Channy Boye-Hlorkah's through ball. The goal sparked Nicola Anderson's side into action with Boye-Hlorkah's powerful shot from distance forcing a fine save from Leach shortly after the goal.

With almost the last kick of the game, Aston Villa levelled as Olivia Fergusson's glancing header nestled in the bottom corner from Bethan Merrick's free kick to leave the Blue Girls' six points behind third place Yeovil.
