Seagulls flying high - 7 Sep 2015 - Women's Football NewsBrighton & Hove Albion have taken up the early pace in the Southern Division after winning 2-0 against Queen's Park Rangers. 
 
Kirsty Barton put the Seagulls in front with seven minutes on the clock and Deanna Cooper scored a spectacular goal, from long range in the opening seconds of the second half.
 
Cardiff City Ladies sit in second place following a 7-4 success away to previously unbeaten C & K Basildon. Jemma Heath and Hope Suominen each netted twice for Cardiff along with Kelly Isaac, Michelle Green and Naomi Clipston. Zoe Rushen hit a hat-trick for C & K but ended up on the losing side, with Maegen Doyle adding their other goal.
 
Portsmouth now sport the division's only remaining 100% record following an impressive 5-1 victory over Coventry Utd, who had begun the day on top of the table. Gemma Simmonds was on target twice for Pompey along with Leeta Rutherford, Ini Umotong and Shannon Sievwright, Amber Hughes netting a consolation for Coventry.
 
Tottenham Hotspur are just one point off the early pace after they came away from Lewes with a 2-0 win under their belts, courtesy of a brace from Wendy Martin.
 
After having opened the season with two successive draws, Charlton Athletic racked up their first victory in style, 6-1 away to Plymouth Argyle. Kim Dixson, Katie Flack and Jenny Newman put the Addicks three goals ahead before Jess Jones reduced the arrears for Argyle. Amy Howlett and Gemma Shepherd added further goals for Charlton before the break, with substitute Darcy Wells rounding off the scoring late on.
 
Newly promoted Forest Green Rovers claimed their first victory of the season, a 1-0 success in a tightly contested game against West Ham Utd. Both teams had opportunities to score before Forest Green finished the match strongly and Kirsty Richardson settled matters with eight minutes remaining, via a strike from the edge of the area.
