Newcastle Utd took the honours on the opening day in the Northern Division as they defeated Middlesbrough 7-0. Siobhan Jones, Alisha Smith and Rachel Vassalo each scored twice, along with an own goal. Leeds Ladies won 2-1 away to Blackburn Rovers with goals from Cara Mahoney and Beth Davies, Abby Bennett replying for the home side. Hanifa Douglas bagged a brace as Stockport County beat Huddersfield Town 2-1.
Cardiff City Ladies got off to a good start in the Midland Division, courtesy of a 6-1 victory over Leicester City Women. Chantelle Chapman and Steph Venn both scored twice, with Laura Williams and Zoe Atkins adding the others. Coventry Utd were 5-0 winners away to Sporting Khalsa whilst Nottingham Forest beat Loughborough Students 3-0 with strikes from Rachel Wakefield (2) and Georgia Gladwin. Ellena Steedman was on target for Derby County as they drew 1-1 with Stoke City, who replied through Coral O'Keefe.
Ronnell Humes and Courtney Miller each scored twice along with Emily Masters and Jennifer Moore for Tottenham Hotspur who were 6-0 winners over Lewes. Crystal Palace defeated Chichester City 2-0 and Queen's Park Rangers won away to Brighton & Hove Albion by the same scoreline, thanks to Kasha Petit and Zemeka Clarke. Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic shared a 3-3 draw, Katie James netting twice and Rebekah Tonks for Pompey and the Addicks responding through Ruby Snowden (2) and Kelsey Smith.
