A seven-goal first half blast carried Cardiff City Ladies on their way to an 8-2 victory over Forest Green Rovers which takes them back into second place in the Southern Division.
Cardiff were quickly out of the blocks with Michelle Green and Naomi Clipston scoring early goals and after Kayane Castro Alencar reduced the arrears for the visitors, Kerry Bartlett then hit a quickfire hat-trick, the third of which came from the penalty spot. Laura Williams finished off a good move for the sixth and then Kelly Isaac fired home a dipping 30-yard strike just before half time.
Cardiff made it eight within a minute of the restart when Chloe Lloyd scored direct from a corner but, to their credit, Forest Green rallied and were to concede no more goals from this point. Indeed, they were to have the last say on the night when Alencar scored her second with six minutes remaining.
Derby County meanwhile moved to within one point of Northern Division leaders Stoke City with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Lauren Steadman put Derby in front midway through the second half and leading scorer Melissa Johnson sealed the victory for her side with six minutes remaining.
Leicester City Women have gone six points clear at the top of Midlands Division One, thanks to a 3-1 win away to local rivals Leicester City Ladies. The league leaders netted all three goals during the first half through Chantelle Robinson, Alicia Schwerzerlbach and Rebecca Carnelly, before the home side replied after the break with a strike from Dagmara Czekaj.
In South West Division One, Chichester City were unable to take an opportunity to move into second place when they were beaten for the first time, 1-0 by Southampton Saints. The only goal of the game came with three minutes remaining from Sabrina Morris-Manoslava, after Hannah Haughton had earlier saved a penalty.
