City move to brink of title
 Women's Football News 4 Oct 2015

City move to brink of title - 4 Oct 2015 - Women's Football NewsGlasgow City are one point away from another Scottish Women's Premier League title after winning 2-0 away to rivals Hibernian in their top of the table clash.

In the second half, City took the lead after great play by Denise O'Sullivan set up Hayley Lauder to run through on goal and fire her shot under the diving Jenna Fife in the Hibs net. City then secured the points when Erin Cuthbert fired an excellent strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. Hibs pushed hard to get back into the game in the last ten minutes but Kirsty Smith shot over when through on goal to miss arguably their best chance to get on the scoresheet. City are now six points clear of Hibernian, with two matches left to play.

Aberdeen stay in third place despite going down to a 4-0 defeat at home to Spartans. Sarah Ewens had a great day in front of goal for the Edinburgh side as she netted a hat-trick, with Claire Crosbie joining her on the scoresheet.

Celtic took the honours in the Old Firm derby clash with a 2-0 victory over Rangers. Kirstin McGuire opened the scoring for the Ghirls midway through the first half and Ellis Dalgleish wrapped up the win with the second goal, five minutes from time.

Stirling University came from a goal behind to beat Inverness City 4-1 and guarantee themselves a top eight place in their first season after promotion. After falling behind in the opening minute and trailing at the break, two goals from Nicole Pullar turned the game on its head before Rebecca Robertson headed in the third and Rachel Donaldson rounded off the scoring with a long range strike.

Forfar Farmington's winning run is showing no signs of abating and they remain on Stirling's heels after a 5-2 success against Hearts. Tori Sousa and Amy Gallacher each scored twice and Keira Johnstone the other for Forfar, with Rachel Walkingshaw and Gemma Mason replying.

Hutchison Vale moved back above Hamilton Academical after beating them 5-1. Natalie Ross bagged a hat-trick for Hutchie with Hayley Cunningham and Anna Carse.
