Liverpool exit Europe after home defeat
 Women's Football News 15 Oct 2015

Liverpool 0 Brescia 1 (Bonansea 26)
(Brescia won 2-0 on aggregate)

Barbara Bonansea's goal ensured Matt Beard's Liverpool reign ended in defeat as the Reds exited the UEFA Champions League at the last 32 stage against Brescia.

Already trailing to Sara Gama's goal in the first leg, Bonansea ensured there would be no comeback for their English hosts in Beard's last game before leaving for Boston Breakers.

There had been few chances of note before Bonansea raced onto Daniela Sabatino's inch-perfect through ball to fire in on 26 minutes.

The visitors lost keeper Chiara Marchitelli to injury on 33 minutes but still Liverpool were unable to break down the Italians' well-organised defence to test substitute Camelia Ceasar. The Reds did have a big penalty shout turned down on 39 minutes though when Roberta D'Adda appeared to block Katie Zelem's goalbound effort with her arm.

Lucy Staniforth then nearly got lucky with a deep free kick moments later, when Ceasar appeared to lose the flight of the ball, but she recovered to parry clear.

Bonansea ran at the Liverpool defence again early into the second half but shot well over from long range. Asisat Oshoala thought she had gifted the Reds a lifeline with a quarter of an hour remaining but she was denied by the offside flag as Brescia progressed to the last sixteen.
