Watford and Bees draw blank

Watford and London Bees shared the points and a blank scoreline in John Salomon's last game in charge of the Golden Girls.

Watford were unable to pick up their second win of the season to give their manager a send off but for London Bees, the point means that they finish the season outside of the bottom two.

Gemma Fraser shot over early on for the Bees and Emma Whitter was denied by a combination of goalkeeper Shayla Burgess and the Watford defence as they continued their good start to the game. Watford began to settle down though and Ellie Mason had a good chance but her effort was off target.

The game remained evenly contested but as half time approached, Burgess needed to produce a good save, tipping a 30-yard strike from Jade Dempster over the bar.

Megan Wynne went close at the other end, turning away from the Bees defence before her shot was tipped onto the bar by Sophie Harris. Mason had a header blocked on the line from an Amber Tullett corner but the scoreline remained goalless at the interval.

Both sides exchanged chances early after the restart, Wynne firing narrowly wide after being found by a good pass from Mason and at the other end, Fraser's shot was saved by Burgess.

Watford began to press with Mason shooting wide and Harris saving from Stacie Donnelly whilst Kim Farrow also had an effort pushed away.

Both goalkeepers were in excellent form and Burgess was the next to shine, palming away a Paige Wakefield free kick which had looked destined for the corner of the net.

Green struck the bar late on for Watford with a dipping 35-yard volley but a goal was not meant to be and both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
