Queen's Park Rangers produced one of the surprise results of the season on Sunday when they defeated Southern Division leaders Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1.
Rangers had not previously won a league game this season and the result lifted them off the bottom of the table. "It was definitely nice to get the three points," midfielder Danielle Puddefoot told Women's Soccer Scene. "Even better, because it was against the team top of the league and who hadn't lost a game all season."
Danielle herself scored their first goal from the penalty spot and Jo Wilson added a second, which Rangers held onto for three valuable points. Danielle insists that the win will be a huge boost for the team's confidence.
"At 2-1, the game is never secure, especially playing the team at the top of the league," she added. "It was nerve wracking towards the end because they were piling a bit of pressure onto our goal. But for once, after all these weeks when things have gone against us, luck was on our side.
"We've been a bit down for the last few weeks after losing every week and being bottom of the league. But it's fair to say the confidence is back now amongst the squad and we'll be aiming to progress forward from here.
"Everyone was shocked at the result. I have a few friends in other teams who couldn't believe it! Hopefully this will be the turning point of our season."
The season continues this Sunday and QPR have another vital match against Forest Green Rovers, who are just above them in the table. "It's important we get points from the teams around us at the bottom," admitted Danielle. "They are who we're fighting against. Forest Green are just above us so it's going to be a big game.
"After Sunday, we've set our standards now by beating the team top of the league. We have to carry that on now."
