SSE Women's FA Cup - Road to the Final
Woolton Ladies safely negotiated another tie when they defeated Boldon 1-0, courtesy of a solitary strike from Stephanie Banks. This has earned them a trip to the North East in the Fourth Round Qualifying to play Whitley Bay, who reached this stage with a 9-2 victory over Westella & Willerby, Stacy Crooks and Steph Ord each scoring four times and Sarah Bennett completing the tally.
Whitley Bay Women FC was formed in 2005 and took their place in the Northumberland and Durham County League, winning promotion in their first season. The team achieved national recognition in 2006 when they became the first regional side to reach the Fourth Round Proper of the FA Women's Cup, gaining the Team of the Round award for their performance in the Third Round when knocking out Rotherham United. A further promotion in 2007 saw them enter the North East Regional Women's League Premier Division and in that season they won the League and League Cup double. Further honours have been achieved with wins in the Northumberland Women's Cup in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2014-15.
Whitley Bay possess a very impressive record in the FA Women's Cup. Since their formation, they have played 38 FA Cup matches and won 30, reaching the Fourth Round once, the Second Round three times and the First Round once. This season they have been drawn at home in each of their four matches and have scored 22 goals, conceding three.
The team is managed by Phil Cross and captain Steph Ord is the club's longest serving current player, having just recently completed 100 appearances. Steph is also top scorer this season. Midfielder Alice Teasdale follows in her father's footsteps, her dad Warren is a Whitley Bay FC legend having played more than 300 times for the Bay. Secretary is Kirsty Hunter, who is also the club's record goalscorer.
