Chichester City 6 Keynsham Town 0
Chichester City set up a home SSE Women's FA Cup Second Round tie with Queen's Park Rangers with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Keynsham Town at Oaklands Park.
A super all round team display was crowned with five second half goals but equally impressive was the strong defending which limited the visitors' clear scoring opportunities to a minimum, despite Keynsham having had a good share of possession and pressure throughout.
Chichester's Kally Ambler had the first chance, heading wide from a right wing cross on three minutes. Keynsham put together some good early moves but the better chances fell to the home side. Shannon Albuery shot narrowly wide under pressure when played in by Lauren Cheshire on nine minutes. Lucie Challen put in a fine challenge to deny Kim Cheffey after good build up from Leanne Lapham and Justine Lorton-Radburn had played the visitors into the area on 16 minutes.
Cheshire put in another dangerous cross which evaded two Chi forwards, then Keynsham keeper Colette Bell saved well from Ambler on 34 minutes as the home side stepped up the pressure. The breakthrough came three minutes before the interval, another break down the right saw an Albuery cross turned home from close range by Jenna Fowlie.
Keynsham started the second half well and had a golden opportunity to equalise on 47 minutes when a corner saw Pilar Garcia fire over from close in. Within two minutes, Chichester had doubled their lead when a right wing corner was turned in by Emma Alexandre. Things quickly got worse for the visitors when Ambler added a third from a Cheshire through ball on 52 minutes, Bell being wrongfooted by a deflection from a defender.
With a comfortable lead, the home side were able to absorb the Keynsham pressure and use the counter attack to deadly effect. Kerrie Ryan did well to play in Fowlie for a composed finish for her second goal on 67 minutes. The best move of the match led to the fifth goal with Challen, subs Jade Widdows and Amy Found combining to play in Chloe Dowdell whose cross was perfect for Albuery to finish powerfully on 84 minutes.
Keynsham continued to battle hard for a consolation but nothing would fall for them in front of goal and Chichester summed up the contrasting fortune when Widdows blocked a clearance then ran on before cleverly rounding the keeper for a sixth in the second minute of added time. Lorton-Radburn was prevented from netting for Keynsham with almost the last kick of the match in a goalmouth scramble as her shot was blocked and cleared off the line to maintain keeper Sally-Anne Thompson and her team's clean sheet.
With both teams handily placed for a promotion push in FAWPL South West Division One, in fourth and fifth place, a close result seemed likely prior to kick off. A very strong and disciplined performance from the hosts combined with good finishing ensured their FA Cup interest continues into 2016 with a crucial away league clash with leaders Larkhall Athletic to round off the year.
