Brighton & Hove Albion are now nine points clear in the Southern Division after running out 4-1 winners over Tottenham Hotspur.
Charlotte Gurr ensured that the Seagulls were two goals ahead at half time by netting a brace and Jay Blackie added a third midway through the second half. Ronnell Humes pulled a goal back for Spurs late on but it turned out to be a consolation as Lisa Fulgence completed the scoring for Brighton in injury time.
Portsmouth received a setback to their title hopes as they were beaten 4-3 by C & K Basildon. In a thrilling match at Canvey Island, Karissa Rodney netted twice for the home side including a late winner, with Amy Nash and Zoe Rushen adding the others. Ini Umotong, with a double, and Lucy Quinn replied for Pompey who stay in fourth place.
Coventry Utd meanwhile maintained their challenge with a 4-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers. All of Coventry's goals came in the second half, Maz Gauntlett giving them the lead before they went on to add further strikes from Cristina Torkildsen, Helen Dermody and Nikki Miles.
Four matches were played in the Southern Division and by a strange quirk of fate, all four home teams netted four goals in victories. With 4-0, 4-1 and 4-3 results in the other three games, it was perhaps inevitable that the other would finish 4-2, West Ham Utd picking up an important win against Plymouth Argyle. Romina Pinna has been in excellent form for the Hammers in recent weeks and the striker hit a hat-trick to send them on their way to three valuable points. Shirvae Edwards added their other goal with an own goal and Phoebe Baker replying for Argyle.
