Goalkeeper Courtney Shanly was the heroine for Gillingham as they eliminated Southern Division Forest Green Rovers on penalties after the sides had battled out a 1-1 draw after extra time at Slimbridge in heavy conditions.
The first half ended goalless but ten minutes after the restart, Kirsty Richardson fired Forest Green in front from Amy Baker's cross. Forest Green had chances to increase their lead but couldn't add a second and with nine minutes remaining, Kallie Balfour scored a well taken equaliser to take the game into extra time. Sam Hallsworth went closest for Forest Green with a near post effort which hit the side netting and the winger also had a goal disallowed for offside, but Gillingham defended strongly with Rachel Ahern having a fine game in the centre. Neither team could make the breakthrough and in the resulting shootout, both sides missed their first attempts on goal. Shanly went on to save three kicks in total and almost kept out the fourth by Jordan Guard, leaving Katie Hardaker to slot home the Gills' fourth penalty and book their place in the Third Round, where they will face either Swindon Town or Tottenham Hotspur.
The cup run is over though for Long Eaton Utd as they were beaten 3-0 by Sporting Club Albion. The East Midlands League side had conquered three Premier League opponents in previous rounds but this time it was Albion who took the lead midway through the first half through Trina Greaves. After the break, Billie Haynes struck early to make it two and Leigh Dugmore completed the win with a late penalty.
Albion's opponents in the next round will be Coventry Utd who came away from C & K Basildon with a 2-0 win under their belts. Ashleigh Neville fired Coventry in front and substitute Alison Hall wrapped up the result with the second goal (see match report).
