Sunderland AFC Ladies have completed the signings of midfielder Krystle Johnston and defender Rachel Pitman.
Johnston has penned a one-year deal with the club following her departure from Manchester City at the end of the 2015 WSL campaign. Having spent a year short of a decade with the Blues, the 31 year-old winger is now set for a new challenge with the Lady Black Cats.
"It was a really easy decision to make and I'm delighted to have signed for the Club" said Johnston. "Carlton didn't really need to persuade me to be honest; I have played against Sunderland for quite a few years so I know what it's all about here.
"There is a real sense of togetherness and I think that is what makes them so hard to play against."
Also joining Carlton Fairweather's side is 22-year-old full back Rachel Pitman, who has recently returned from DePaul University in Chicago. The former England Youth international has penned a two-year deal with the club which will see her remain on Wearside until 2017.
"It was an easy decision to make because of the set-up overall, there is not much better out there." said Pitman. "Sunderland are a club who are striving to be at the top and I am delighted to be a part of that ambition."
Sunderland Ladies head coach Carlton Fairweather was delighted to welcome the new additions as preparations continue for the 2016 FA WSL 1 season: "It is great to bring on board another two fantastic players as we look to build on the success of last season. Krystle and Rachel have a wealth of experience which will stand us in good stead for the forthcoming campaign."
