Victorious first season for Ashford

Victorious first season for Ashford - 26 Feb 2016 - Women's Football News

Ashford Town (Middlesex) recently became the first team to win their division during the winter season when they carried off the Division Three South title in the Greater London League.
Ashford were only formed last summer and manager William Boye, who is also the club Chairman, told us his account of their successful season:
"It's been a fantastic season this year with the creation of Ashford Ladies, plenty of meetings back and forth, plenty of questions (will this work, won't it?), however I got together with close friends and people I trust to create this fantastic side.
"A Strength & Conditioning coach in Gabs Jones, Goalkeeping coach in Shaq Coxhall, Coach in Matthew Aumeeruddy, Sports Physio in Khian Graham-Minott and a superb Captain in Vicky James.
"I was confident that if we were to do this, then we're to do this properly with the right people in place, people that I know and whole-heartedly trust because we will be representing a football club that holds such great history.
"Training began in pre-season with great numbers attending every practice, not to mention the amount of quality we were lucky to acquire in our pre-season trials. The intensity and quality in training continued in pre season with fixtures against West Ham Ladies and Viking Ladies (from Norway) to name a few.
"The ladies used defeats and victories in pre-season fixtures and took this into the league, which saw us dominate teams from the very beginning. Victories such as 18-0 against Club Langley, 13-0 against London Phoenix and 16-0 against Old Actonian Thirds saw us create a ruthless approach to all games and before we knew it the league was clinched at the end of the calendar year 2015!
"It's been a remarkable effort from each and every single player who I have mentioned below - even the players who have come and gone - have affected us as a club in a positive way that has allowed this journey to winning the league in our first year to be a successful one - thank you.
"The goals from our top striker Ashley Cheatley is of course something that I must mention. Her attitude, work rate and application to training is superb and it's no surprise that she consistently gets her rewards on game day. Ashley has gone on to score 57 goals alone for us this year and her quality was recognised as she was called up to represent the Middlesex County FA Rep Team, scoring 1 goal in 2 games. A highly sought after striker and it's no surprise with the quality she possesses - we're glad we have managed to create an environment for her in which she can continue to develop as a footballer and improve every time she takes to the field.
"We are of course still in every cup competition this season with a semi final fixture in two weeks time and a quarter final fixture in the next three weeks. We're looking to compete highly in both of these competitions which will allow us to cap what has been a wonderful season for everyone involved with Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies Football Club."
Ashford Town (Middlesex) squad: Amy O'Sullivan, Ashley Cheatley, Amber Luzar, Ashley Cheatley, Vicky James, Beth Sheehan, Rebecca Thurlow, Jess Boyd, Charlotte McGregor, Charmaine Benham, Frida Larsson, Claire Sammuels, Holly Isaacs, Irisha Smith, Jade Harker, Judith Densu, Laura Huse, Lauren Restel, Lavana Neufville, Lucy Easton, Paige Pantlin, Tia Prior, Tilly Frost, Emily Hogg, Manuela Naprta, Shannon Read, Lisa Cafferky, Victoria Kobus, Chloe Hetherington.
