Manchester City became the first team to go through to the quarter finals of the SSE Women's FA Cup when they won 2-0 away to Liverpool on Saturday night.
Both teams were playing their first competitive match of the season and Liverpool manager Scott Rogers marked his first game in charge by handing seven debuts to members of his new look squad.
Reds goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain made good saves from Toni Duggan and Jane Ross but was powerless to prevent City taking the lead on 29 minutes when Georgia Stanway unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard shot.
After the break, Emma Lundh almost levelled the scores when her shot struck the post but in the 63rd minute, City took a firm grip on the game as Nikita Parris headed in the second goal from a Duggan corner.
Despite the efforts of the lively Lundh, Liverpool couldn't get themselves back into the game and City closed the match out to seal a place in the last eight.
There only down side for City came early on when Izzy Christiansen left the field with an ankle injury - to be replaced by goalscorer Stanway.
