Sunderland 1 (Mead 46) Reading FC Women 1 (Roche 41)
Reading FC Women picked up their very first point in WSL 1 with a creditable 1-1 draw against Sunderland, who were making their first appearance of the season.
Kelly Chambers' side led at the break through a goal from Lois Roche but Sunderland goal machine Beth Mead earned her side a share of the spoils with a strike early in the second half.
Sunderland started brightly with Abbey Joice shooting wide and Brooke Chaplen bringing a save from Reading keeper Grace Maloney.
But it was Reading who took the lead before half time when Roche's free kick took a deflection off Lucy Staniforth and bounced past Rachael Laws.
Sunderland started the second half perfectly though, with Mead rounding Moloney and firing in. Four minutes later, Mead slotted past Moloney but, as the ball bobbled goalwards, Reading captain Kirsty McGee hooked it off the line.
Laws then came to Sunderland's rescue, keeping out a Roche free kick and also denying Helen Ward and Emma Follis.
