Writtle savour title hat-trick
 Women's Football News 16 Apr 2016
Writtle are celebrating winning the Eastern Region League Division One East title, their third Championship in successive seasons.
They moved up into the league last summer after a victorious campaign in the Essex County Women's League. "We started pre-season in early July, fresh from gaining the team's second back-to-back league title," said Writtle's Sue Mold. "Our manager of the previous two successful seasons decided to step down and handed over the Management of the team to Simon Clarke.
"Six players from our previous season's successes also left the squad due to various reasons but the squad was boosted with the arrival of several players who stepped up from the Under-18s. The pre-season games were already arranged and the teams we were up against were very difficult opponents. We experimented with different formations and tried players out in unfamiliar positions. It took us until the end of pre-season to actually win a couple of friendlies.
"We opened the League season with a 7-0 win against Little Thurrock Dynamos and continued our good start with fine away performances at Long Melford, Ipswich and West Billericay. Our new centre back pairing of Hannah Mold and Lynette Jones were solid in defence. Captain Abigail Fry, Sophie Vale and Courtney Clarke were regular scorers at the other end of the pitch. We took a break from League action to take part in the Cup competitions and continued our good form resulting in the team reaching the Essex Cup Final.
"The quality and depth of our squad has been a major factor in our success. Very rarely have we been able to field an unchanged side. Competition for places has been tough but the team spirit has got stronger as the season has progressed. The majority of our players can play in more than one position, this versatility makes team selection easier. Abigail Fry and Sophie Vale head the goalscoring charts and other regular goalscorers have been Georgie Tricker, Courtney Clarke, Amy Simmons and Charlotte Walker.
"Goalkeeper Beth Griffiths, midfielder Georgina Tricker and striker Courtney Clarke have all been selected to represent the County (Essex) this season. The team played some of their best football in our away games at Bury Town and Silver End when we recorded 5-0 and 3-0 victories respectively. We clinched the league title with a 3-0 victory at our closest rivals Silver End when we raced into a three-goal lead in the first twelve minutes with two goals from Courtney Clarke and one from Georgina Tricker."
