Liverpool 1 (Weir 81) Chelsea 2 (So-Yun 13, Flaherty 62)
Chelsea have taken over the leadership of WSL 1 with a third straight win but they were pushed all the way by Liverpool at the Select Security Stadium.
The visitors took the lead on fifteen minutes when, after a defensive mix up on the edge of the Liverpool box, the ball broke to Ji So-Yun who made no mistake as she slotted past Siobhan Chamberlain from 12 yards.
Galvanised by conceding the goal, the hosts went on the attack with Hedvig Lindahl pulling off a stunning save from Caroline Weir after the Liverpool midfielder had turned brilliantly in the area. From the resulting corner, Sophie Ingle's scuffed effort came back off the post as the Chelsea goal enjoyed a charmed life in the run up to half time.
With the game in the balance, a second goal was crucial and it was the visitors who grabbed it just after the hour when Gilly Flaherty dived to head in Beth England's corner.
The Londoners lost the inspirational Lindahl to injury on 71 minutes before things got even more nervy when Weir placed a lovely finish past substitute Becky Spencer after she ran on to a through ball from Niamh Charles.
