Man City regain leadership
 Women's Football News 1 May 2016
Sunderland 0 Manchester City 2 (Parris 40, Duggan 75)
Manchester City are back on top of the WSL 1 table after making it four wins out of four with a 2-0 success at the Hetton Centre.
After a tight opening 20 minutes, City fashioned the first opening of the game. Demi Stokes' left wing cross found the head of Kosovare Asllani, whose effort was well held by keeper Rachael Laws. City should then have taken the lead on 36 minutes. Nikita Parris' cross from the right beat Laws but Asllani, with the goal gaping, could only head back into Laws' arms.
Sunderland finally tested City keeper Karen Bardsley nine minutes before the break. Abby Holmes got to the goal line and her cross found Steph Roche at the far post, whose header was saved low down.
City took the lead five minutes before the break. Jill Scott picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and pulled it back to Daphne Corboz who fed in Parris, who in turn fired in a powerful finish.
The visitors missed a great chance to double their lead ten minutes after the break. A long ball across the pitch caught out the Sunderland defence and allowed Asllani to race through, but she sliced her effort wide from 15 yards.
Sunderland, already missing Hilde Gunn Olsen, Krystle Johnston and Kylla Sjoman through injury, saw Victoria Williams limp off and they also lost Hayley Sharp to injury.
On 76 minutes, City doubled their advantage. Sunderland failed to clear their lines and Stokes played in Duggan, who swept home with her first touch of the game, moments after coming on as a substitute.
Sunderland: Rachael Laws, Abby Holmes, Steph Bannon, Hayley Sharp (sub Charlotte Potts 67mins), Victoria Williams (sub Megan Beer 66mins), Lucy Staniforth, Brooke Chaplen, Rachel Furness, Keira Ramshaw (sub Abbey Joice 45mins), Beth Mead, Stephanie Roche. Subs not used: Kelly McDougall, Danielle Brown, Madelaine Hill, Emma Kelly.

Manchester City: Karen Bardsley, Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton, Abbie McManus, Demi Stokes, Jennifer Beattie, Daphne Corboz (sub Georgia Stanway 62mins), Jill Scott, Kosovare Asllani (sub Toni Duggan 74mins), Jane Ross, Nikita Parris. Subs not used: Marie Hourihan, Zoe Tynan, Alethea Paul, Amelia Kemp.

Attendance: 1411
