City go back on top
 Women's Football News 1 May 2016

Watford 0 Bristol City 2 (Ayane 7, Fergusson 30)
Bristol City went back to the top of WSL 2 after recording their third victory inside a week at Berkhamsted.

The Vixens got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after just seven minutes. Rosella Ayane contacted nicely with a volley and found the bottom corner of the net to put the away side 1-0 ahead. It was almost a quick response from Watford, Charlotte Kerr spun away from her marker but couldn't keep her shot down.

Midway through the half it was nearly 2-0. Millie Farrow played in Olivia Fergusson but she shot narrowly wide of the left hand post. A couple of minutes after that, Sophie Cheadle was at her best to keep it a one goal game. Chloe Arthur played a ball over the top to Farrow but the Watford goalkeeper's starting position and alertness ensured she got there first.

The second goal did come on the half hour mark. Jodie Brett's corner fell kindly to Fergusson who fired home from ten yards out.

Injuries would be a key theme to the game and Cheadle on her return to the side had to be withdrawn. The keeper appeared to injure her arm or shoulder as Ayane stretched to get to a Grace McCatty ball across goal.

The theme returned early in the second half as Stacie Donnelly was on the end of a studs up tackle to her right shin and had to be taken off. Sahara Osborne-Ricketts played a lovely ball through to Kerr as Watford looked to get back into the match, however Hayley Ladd showed a decent turn of pace to recover.

The last fifteen minutes have been when the Golden Girls have shone this season and it nearly happened again. Kim Farrow's shot from distance was spilled by Caitlin Leach but the City goalkeeper was quick to recover to deny Kerr on the rebound. In the closing stages, Leach again showed some good hands to make sure Katie Stanley's pass didn't reach Chontele Lawrence.

Paige Sawyer picked up a nasty looking injury in stoppage time and the referee decided to end the game as she received treatment.
