Yeovil gain derby victory

Yeovil gain derby victory - 20 May 2016 - Women's Football NewsYeovil Town 2 (Wiltshire 1, Curson 31) Bristol City 0
Yeovil Town climbed above previously unbeaten Bristol City after two first half goals gave them victory in the West Country derby at Huish Park.
A point would have taken City back to the top of the table but they were put on the back foot with just 74 seconds on the clock. Charlotte Haynes' long clearance down the right was chased down by Helen Bleazard who got past Eloise Wilson before squaring the ball across goal for Sarah Wiltshire to score from close range.
City's initial response to the early setback was good and they pressed hard for a quick equaliser. Rosella Ayane fired a shot wide after exchanging passes with Chloe Arthur and then Millie Farrow was put through on goal but Haynes came to the home side's rescue with a good save. The resulting corner was taken quickly and Brett's cross picked out Arthur whose downward header was cleared by Kelly Snook.
Farrow and Ayane both drove shots off target but Yeovil weathered the storm and looked threatening going forward themselves. It could have been two as Caitlin Leach raced from her goal to clear a long ball forward but Bleazard beat her to the ball and crossed for Wiltshire to hook a shot goalwards, but Hayley Ladd was well placed to clear off the line.
Bleazard was having a lot of freedom on the right and this helped lead them to double their lead just after the half hour. Her cross was half cleared away as far as Ellie Curson whose cross-cum-shot landed in the far corner of the net for the second goal.
Yeovil controlled the remainder of the first half and took their two-goal lead into the interval.
City upped their game after the break and looked more purposeful going forward but Yeovil were content to sit on their lead and made it hard for their opponents to break them down. Yeovil did have the first attempt of the half when Wiltshire shot over but a couple of minutes later, Arthur fired over the bar from distance for City.
Arthur was showing up well in the second half with some clever touches but City were struggling to get behind a well organised Yeovil defence in which Kayleigh Green and Hannah Short stood strong. Loren Dykes did break down the right and send in a couple of dangerous crosses by Haynes' handling was faultless on both occasions.
The closest City got to pulling a goal back came from a quickly taken free kick by Arthur, Brett's shot was inches wide. There were no more scares for Yeovil as they took their unbeaten run to five matches and placed themselves firmly amongst the leading sides.
