The outcome of the Northern Division title race was finally decided on Sunday, when Newcastle Utd beat Stockport County 6-1 to overhaul Blackburn Rovers at the top of the table. The Lady Magpies needed nothing less than a victory going into the game and Siobhan Jones hit a hat-trick to spearhead the win with Alisha Smith, Carly Davies and Lauren Driver joining her on the scoresheet.
The last match of the season was played in the FA WSL Development League Northern Division and it ended with honours even as Birmingham City and Liverpool shared a 1-1 draw, Emily Joyce scoring for Birmingham before Kirsty Hanson grabbed a last minute equaliser for the Reds.
On Wednesday night, Arsenal made sure of the Southern Division title with a 5-0 victory away to Millwall Lionesses. Charlotte Devlin gave the Gunners an eighth minute lead with Taylor Hinds and Rianna Dean adding further goals before half time. After the break, Dean netted her second goal and Anna Patten rounded off the scoring with the fifth goal.
Arsenal get an opportunity to land a League and Cup double this coming Saturday when they take on Northern Division runners-up Sheffield FC in the Development League Cup Final. Arsenal were the inaugural winners of the competition two years ago whilst Sheffield have reached the Final at the first attempt.
The Final takes place at Sutton Coldfield Town FC and kicks off at 2pm.
