Season to remember for AEK Boco   - 5 Jun 2016 - Women's Football News

AEK Boco have had an outstanding season which has finished with them lifting two trophies along with a great run in the SSE Women's FA Cup.
Things started off with two teams joining together at the beginning of July last year - the first team, who were managed by Keith Harris, and the AEK Boco Development side managed by Nick Alexander. These two teams, a mixture of youth and experience, formed together starting off with a few pre-season games which showed promise for the season ahead.
The first league game came along against Bristol Ladies Union in which Boco won 3-0, this form continued in each league game throughout the season, with an added bonus of a fantastic FA cup run. The first FA Cup tie was played at Frome Town, who were two leagues above and unbeaten at that time. This was a big test for the team as many of the players hadn't played against this type of opposition before, but they showed how well they had gelled together by winning 2-1, which a lot of people didn't expect.
This led them to the next FA Cup tie against Shanklin, a massive test for the whole team as they were another league higher than Frome. "The team knew on our day we were a match for most teams, which was proven by beating them 1-0," said captain Briony Harris. "This achievement was massive, not only for AEK Boco Ladies but for the club as a whole. It was the first time this had been achieved by one of their teams and this meant we went through to the Fourth Round Qualifying.
"We came up against a very good and strong side in Chichester and this was no easy game, Chichester showed the quality and experience they had and beat us 10-0. This result wasn't a negative for Boco as the team never gave up on the day but were just well beaten by a much better team who were hoping to be promoted themselves this season.
"This then led us to concentrate on the league with a lot of games being cancelled due to bad weather, meaning we had a lot of ground to make up on rivals Cheltenham Town Development. The pressure was on us to win every game to ensure we won the league and this was a big test as we couldn't afford to slip up.
"We then went on a run of 14 games unbeaten with a couple of those games being real nail biters. One that sticks in the mind was against Bristol & West, scoring the only goal of the game in the last 20 seconds of added time. This was a huge win which kept us on course for winning the league.
"We progressed to the final of the League Cup and proved to be a big test of a young Abbeymead Rovers side who we beat 8-0.
"The season has been a massive achievement by all, with great support from the club. Everyone can be proud of what has happened this season."
AEK Boco squad: Rownitta Marston, Briony Harris, Rebecca Watson, Cheyenne Lee, Jayde Cook, Sasha Ferris, Sarah Wilmer, Abi Nicholas, Julia Farrell, Lucy Lockier, Lily Board, Ellie Keedwell, Lucy Atkinson, Courtney Smith, Kelly Cutler, Rea Manning, Leigh Ann Graham.
