Oxford Utd 0 Birmingham City 2 (Hegerberg pen 23, Lawley 84)
Birmingham City have made it safely through to the last eight of the Continental Tyres Cup after a goal in each half ended the hopes of Oxford Utd.
New signings Isabelle Linden and Andrine Hegerberg were both instrumental in the win, with the Blues dominating from the outset and forcing Oxford stopper Demi Lambourne into several important saves.
However Lambourne brought down Linden on 23 minutes and Hegerberg stepped up to convert the resulting penalty to give Birmingham the lead, before Melissa Lawley slotted a second goal home with six minutes remaining to make the result certain.
Oxford had their chances before Lawley's goal and nearly grabbed an equalizer against the run of play fifteen minutes into the second half, when Ini Umotong forced Sophie Baggaley into a superb stop low to her right. Umotong - who has scored eight goals in nine games - also hit the post when clean through on goal, shortly before the Blues went on to wrap up the win.
