 Women's Football News 14 Aug 2016
Crewe build for Premier League return - 14 Aug 2016 - Women's Football NewsCrewe Alexandra make their return to the Premier League when they play host to Chorley in Northern Division One on Sunday.
Following promotion as Champions of the North West Women's Regional League last season, the club has taken big strides during the summer with a number of new signings, sponsorships and increased media exposure as we prepare for life in the FA Women's Premier League.
The club will be welcoming some fresh faces and also returning players who are vital to the squad. Striker Daria Reschke, an ex-Poland youth international, will be linking up with the first team this season and will be looking to be one of the top scorers in the league. Midfielder Holly Espie joins from Curzon Ashton of whilst ex-Crewe Centre of Excellence defender Freya Sammons will provide extra stability at the back along with Victoria Howard, another new signing.
A huge signing during the summer for the Alex is midfielder Leanne Derry, who returns to the club along with Joanne Power, who will play a pivotal role in the squad after returning from injury.
Pre-season has been very positive for CALFC, with players taking part in fitness testing at Edge Hill University and extra training sessions including boxercise at Pure Gym Stafford as the new season approaches.
Along with training, a number of pre-season friendlies have taken place against some experienced teams from higher levels such as Coventry United Ladies, Fylde Ladies and Wolves Women which have aided the preparation and development of players a big amount.
It isn't only the first team making huge strides, the development squad is improving every season with the quality of players at a high standard through excellent coaching. The number of players making the move up the age groups all the way to the first team is increasing with defender Abbey Whittingham and midfielder Tasha Durham two examples.
Crewe's season gets underway on Sunday 21st August at home to Chorley Ladies at the Cumberland Arena, CW1 2BD with a 2pm kick off.
