Lewes recovered from a bad start to record the biggest win on the opening day in the Southern Division when they ran out 7-2 winners over West Ham Utd.
Danielle Lane, Rachel Palmer and Kim Stenning all netted doubles for the Rookettes with Kelly Newton also getting on the scoresheet, despite the Hammers having taken a two-goal lead in the opening fifteen minutes through Katie Bottom and Whitney Locke.
Last season's runners-up Charlton Athletic have begun the season strongly, notching a 4-0 victory over newly promoted Swindon Town. Katie Flack and Gemma Shepherd put the Addicks two ahead early on and they went on to crown the win with further strikes after the break from Kit Graham and Charley Clifford.
The other promoted side, Crystal Palace, fared better as they battled out a 2-2 draw with Coventry Utd. Gemma Bryan twice gave Palace the lead, with Coventry hitting back on each occasion with two equalisers from Stephanie Smith to earn a share of the spoils.
C & K Basildon ensured they got off to a good start when goals from Lily Mellors and Zoe Rushen took them to a 2-0 win against Portsmouth.
