Durham stay in the running - 29 Aug 2016 - Women's Football NewsDurham Women 2 (Hepple pen 20, Atkinson 34) Oxford Utd 1 (Franklin-Fraiture 66)
Durham Women stepped up their promotion challenge in WSL 2 as two first half goals gave them victory against Oxford Utd, leaving them three points off second place and with a game in hand.
Beth Hepple broke the deadlock in the 20th minute from the spot, after Jess Frampton bundled over Jordan Atkinson on the right hand side of penalty area, scoring her seventh league goal of the season.
When Sarah McFadden's shot was parried by Demi Lambourne fourteen minutes later, Atkinson was able to slot home the rebound and double Durham's lead.
United were more prominent in the second period and chipped away at the deficit in the 66th minute, when Ella Franklin-Fraiture bundled the ball home after Helen Alderson failed to grab the ball under pressure.
It wasn't enough to deny the hosts victory though as Oxford made it one win from eight.
