Manchester City 2 (Beattie 48, Houghton 87) Reading FC Women 0
Manchester City are two wins away from their first ever WSL 1 title following victory over Reading FC Women at the Academy Stadium.
The kick off was moved forward to set up a double header with the men's team and attracted a healthy attendance which included men's captain Vincent Kompany.
City were quickly into their stride with Jane Ross and Daphne Corboz going close before Ross struck the bar moments later. The home side continued to call the shots with Reading hanging on determinedly under pressure and the visitors stayed strong at the back until half time.
Three minutes into the second half, City won a free kick which Toni Duggan floated into the area and Jennifer Beattie rose highest to beat Mary Earps with a downward header and give her side the lead.
Jill Scott went close to doubling the advantage but it wasn't until the dying minutes that they secured the points when Steph Houghton curled home a free kick for the second goal.
