Women's Football News
Middlesbrough are back on top of the Northern Division following their 7-1 victory over Newcastle Utd. Bianca Owens and Sammie Leigh each scored twice for 'Boro along with Emma Foster, Sarah Manning and Emily Scarr. Bradford City meanwhile claimed their first victory of the season, 1-0 against Huddersfield Town thanks to a goal from Lucy Sowerby.
Tottenham Hotspur made it three wins out of three in the Southern Division and their 4-0 success at Queen's Park Rangers sees them as the new leaders. Kelley Blanchflower was on target twice along with Josie Green and Nikita Whinnett. Charlton Athletic battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace, having led 3-0 at one stage with Kit Graham (2) and Gemma Shepherd on the scoresheet but Roschelle Shakes, Gemma Bryan and Sarah Jones hit back to earn Palace a share of the spoils. Samantha Quayle, with a brace, Eilidh Currie and Shannon Sievwright gave Portsmouth a 4-3 victory over Lewes, who replied through Danielle Lane, Kelly Newton and Tammy Waine. West Ham Utd picked up their first point when they held third place C & K Basildon to a goalless draw.
Northern Division One
Chorley are three points clear in Northern Division One after Ruth Harrison, Scarlet Smith and Melissa Ball gave them a 3-1 win against Blackpool Wren Rovers, whose consolation came from Nikki Berko. Leeds Ladies were beaten for the first time, 2-0 by Hull City for whom Katie Thompson and Jo Symington scored. Rachel Rigby netted twice along with Charlotte Navarro and Stephanie Holmes for Tranmere Rovers as they defeated Crewe Alexandra 4-1, Leanne Derry replying.
Midlands Division One
Steel City Wanderers went level on points with leaders Loughborough Foxes by beating Rotherham Utd 3-1. Paige Unwin, Mercy Darkoah and Sarah Smith scored for the Steels with Shannon Ryan responding. Vicky Brackenbury, Natalie Widdal and Amber Quick netted the goals as Wolverhampton Wanderers won 3-1 at Birmingham & West Midlands for whom Emily Painter was on target. Long Eaton Utd won for the first time, 2-1 against Radcliffe Olympic. Precious Hamilton and Cara Newton scored their goals with Lucy Webster on target for the home side.
On Thursday night, Loughborough Foxes restored their three point lead at the top by beating Loughborough Students 5-0. The students were making their first league appearance of the season but could not prevent the Foxes from running out winners thanks to goals from Emma Pilling (2), Chloe Young, Laura Steele and Millie Seaton. Charlotte Canlett netted twice along with Madison Jones and Emily Ridge for TNS Ladies as they won 4-2 against Sporting Khalsa.
South East Division One
Cambridge Utd have taken over the leadership of South East Division One after beating Stevenage Ladies 3-2. Nicole Perschky (2) and Becky Taylor netted for the U's, Stevenage through an own goal and Hayley Wood-Thompson. Natasha Thomas, Sophie Welton and Jade Henry were the markswomen for Ipswich Town in their 3-2 success at Lowestoft Town.
South West Division One
Larkhall Athletic got back to winning ways in South West Division One when beating St Nicholas 3-1. Kate German, Lizzie Barratt and an own goal gave the Larks the points, with Samantha Hollis grabbing a late consolation. Lauren May and Hannah Summers scored to give Maidenhead Utd their first win, 2-1 against Basingstoke Town who replied through Lindsey Beverley.
Chichester City and Southampton Saints occupy the top two positions after their meeting ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday night. Jess Lewry gave Chichester a third minute lead which was cancelled out near the end by Krystal Whyte.
