Oxford Utd 0 Aston Villa 1 (Welsh 19)
Aston Villa moved themselves back up the table as a first half goal from Kerri Welsh earned them the three points at Abingdon.
Ella Franklin-Fraiture had a golden opportunity to claim the lead for Oxford when Lauren Allison's shot was parried into her path by Grace Moloney, but the midfielder skied the ball over the bar.
Welsh scored the only goal of the game to condemn an unfortunate United to their third straight defeat, prodding home from close range after Tash Baptiste headed across goal from a long ball from the right.
Shortly after the restart, the dangerous Ini Umotong broke free on the counter attack from a pass through the middle, but Moloney dived bravely at the striker's feet to smother the ball.
Allison came within inches of equalising five minutes from time when an astonishing run on the left took her all the way to the six yard area, but her shot came agonisingly off the post and back into Moloney's grateful arms.
