Alessia salvages point with last gasp strike
 Women's Football News 2 Oct 2016

England 3 (Brazil 20, Stanway 33, Russo 90) North Korea 3 (Sim 29, Pom 67, Kyong 84)
Alessia Russo scored a 94th minute equaliser as England opened their FIFA Women's Under-17 World Cup campaign with a thrilling 3-3 draw against North Korea.

Birmingham City striker Ellie Brazil headed home a Niamh Charles cross to put John Griffiths's side ahead before Hyang Sim Sung levelled for the 2008 winners. Manchester City schemer Georgia Stanway then finished off a neat one-two with Brazil just four minutes later to restore the Lionesses' lead at half time.

Midway through the second half, Pom Ui Kim pulled the scores back level again when she scored from a free kick which skidded past Ellie Roebuck.

England tired badly and were hanging on for a point, grateful on one occasion to a vital block from Taylor Hinds and an excellent save by Roebuck from Ri Hae Yon's shot, but with six minutes remaining, Hyang Sim Sung skipped past Kelsey Pearson and crossed for Kyong Hui Ko to finish from close range, despite the efforts of Hinds.

However with literally the last kick of the game, England were to salvage a valuable point when Russo drilled home a 20-yard shot into the far corner of the net.

John Griffiths' side are next in action on Tuesday when they take on Nigeria, who were beaten 1-0 by Brazil in the other group game.
