Sheffield clinch top half position
 Women's Football News 30 Oct 2016
Sheffield FC 2 (Ward 56, Lord-Mears 58) Oxford Utd 1 (Umotong 90)
Sheffield FC will finish in the top half of the WSL 2 table at the first attempt after two second half goals secured the points against Oxford Utd.
The game lacked momentum in the first half as both sides struggled to create meaningful chances, with only Emma Johnson's early volley testing Oxford goalkeeper Demi Lambourne.
Despite the visitors starting the second half the better team, it was Johnson's side that broke the deadlock in deadly and spectacular fashion. Carla Ward made room for herself with some clever play before the midfielder unleashed a precise effort that was just out of reach for Lambourne.
That was the catalyst for Sheffield to take control and the home side doubled their lead within minutes, rising star Rhema Lord-Mears smashing home her first of the season in style from outside of the box.
Oxford never got close to troubling the home side until the last moments of the game when top scorer Ini Umotong flicked the ball over Claire Wallhead after good work from Ella Franklin-Fraiture.

Sheffield FC: Claire Wallhead, Sarah Jackson, Billie Murphy, Emma Lipman, Ellie Gilliatt, Emma Johnson (sub Kirsty Hanson 54mins), Hannah Dale, Carla Ward, Hannah Cain (sub Kenedy Owen 79mins), Sophie Jones (sub Rhema Lord-Mears 54mins), Jodie Michalska. Subs not used: Juliana Draycott, Danielle Cox.
