Yeovil clinch WSL 2 title

Yeovil clinch WSL 2 title - 7 Nov 2016 - Women's Football NewsYeovil Town 3 (Quinn 15, Heatherson 46, Cousins 78) Sheffield FC 0
Yeovil Town celebrated the biggest achievement in their history by clinching the WSL 2 title with a comfortable victory over Sheffield FC at Huish Park.

The Lady Glovers went into the game with a large advantage in goal difference and were given the start they wanted after fifteen minutes when Kayleigh Green's pass picked out Lucy Quinn who turned on the edge of the area and drove a shot which squirmed under Claire Wallhead and into the net.

Yeovil took their lead into the half time interval but news that Bristol City were four goals up at Oxford meant that they could not afford any slip ups at that stage.

However just a minute after the restart, Green was again the provider as she floated in a cross from the left for Ann Marie Heatherson to climb above Sarah Jackson and direct a header into the corner to settle any Yeovil nerves.

Yeovil rounded off their day with twelve minutes remaining as Nicola Cousins' cross from the right evaded both Jessie Jones and Heatherson on its way into the net and the celebrations could well and truly begin.

The eventual margin of goal difference was four and in front of a record crowd of 1,483, Yeovil captain Ellie Curson lifted the FA WSL 2 trophy to crown the greatest season in the club's history.
