Penrith AFC v Norton & Stockton Ancients
 Women's Football News 13 Nov 2016

SSE Women's FA Cup - Road to the Final
Penrith AFC continued their good run in the cup by beating Boldon Ladies 4-2 with Nat Broad scoring twice, with one apiece from Charlotte Smith and Heather Fawkes. This earns their side a home tie with Norton & Stockton Ancients, who were 2-1 winners over FC United of Manchester thanks to Anna Mawston and Sian Williams.

Norton & Stockton Ancients are a grassroots club with lots of junior boys teams and are also proud to boast seven junior girls teams from Under-8 Development to Under-18. As a team, they won three consecutive promotions through the Durham County Women's League and North East League, enabling them to compete in the FA Women's Premier League where they stayed for two seasons before being relegated at the end of last season.

Now back in the North East League Premier Division, Norton have started the season really well and are in second place, having won all of their league matches so far.

The team is managed by Chris Burton, who also coaches the Under-15 and Under-18 girls teams at the club, as well as the Under-14 girls' county team. His assistant is Kevin Waterworth who joined the club this season with a wealth of experience in the women's game.

Kate McGuire, club captain, has been captain of the various teams since she joined the club aged 8, a total of fifteen years! Vicki Hutchinson is vice captain and has played for Norton for the last six years. Vicki is also the manager of the Under-15 and Under-18 girls team and the female football representative on the club committee. Sian Williams, Nyci Thorns and Anna Mawston provide the main goal threat and are the team's leading scorers so far.

Arsenal and England midfielder Jordan Nobbs is an ex-Norton player - she still comes along to support when she isn't playing herself!

The ladies team are very lucky to be part of such a supportive, friendly and successful club whose committee are dedicated to developing the female game from the ground up. Within the team, they also have a great behind-the-scenes team - Lauren McGuire (commercial) and Kelly McLone and Dave Wells (kit managers) who all do a fantastic job.
