The Watford Ladies FC set up is delighted to confirm the appointment of new Head Coach Keith Boanas, ahead of this Sunday's opening FA Women's Super League 2 fixture against Aston Villa.
UEFA Pro Licence holder Boanas brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role; including highly successful spells as Charlton Athletic WFC's Head Coach and, most recently, eight years as Women's National Team Manager and Technical Director for the Estonian FA.
The Lady Hornets will first play at their new home of Kings Langley FC on Sunday 26th February, with a 2pm kick off scheduled for the visit of London Bees, as part of a ‘Spring Series' half year season that will see the women's game return to a winter fixture cycle from Autumn 2017.
Watford conceded last weekend's SSE Women's FA Cup tie to Doncaster Rovers Belles in order to ensure necessary preparations were fully in place ahead of the start of the league fixture programme.
"It's been a time of much transition and change," commented the club's General Manager Ellie Kemp. "However we believe we're now on a very firm footing with Keith leading our coaching set up.
"The players will be energised and ready for the challenges that lay ahead. We want to be a really competitive team and there's no reason to believe we can't achieve that."
Before departing for Estonia, Boanas managed Charlton Athletic when they won the FA Women's Cup in 2005 and also led them to two Premier League Cup successes, as well as finishing runners-up in the Premier League on three occasions.
