Smooth passage for holders
 Women's Football Scottish WPL News - 24 Feb 2017

Hibernian began their defence of the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup with a 6-0 victory over league newcomers East Fife in the First Round.

Abigail Harrison and Chelsea Cornet ensured that Hibs led by two goals at half time, and they secured the win in the second half with a Lisa Robertson brace, Rachel McLauchlan and an own goal.

Savannah Jordan made sure her debut for Glasgow City was a memorable one as she scored a hat-trick in their 8-0 win away to Jeanfield Swifts. Abbi Grant netted twice on her return to the club and the scoring was completed by Savannah McCarthy, Nicola Docherty and Sam Kerr.

Hearts are the only SWPL 2 remaining in the competition after they defeated Hamilton Academical 3-0. All of the goals came in the second half, Ashley Carse scoring twice before Jennifer Dodds added the third.

Celtic got their season off to a winning start, a narrow 1-0 success against Forfar Farmington. The only goal of the game came midway through the first half, scored by Natalie Ross.

Arguably the best tie of the round was at Motherwell where Spartans won a thrilling tie 4-3. Simone McMahon, Laura Gavin, Alana Marshall and Bobby Beveridge were the scorers for Spartans while Motherwell, who were two down at one stage, replied through a Niamh Johnston brace and Pam Liddell.

There were plenty of goals on show at Rangers where the home side won 8-3 against Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale. Chantelle Brown and Jordan McLintock bagged a brace apiece for Rangers, who scored four times in the last ten minutes, with Sarah Robertson, Chelsie Watson, Claire Adams and an own goal. Nichola Sturrock, Anna Hume and Lauren Watters all replied for EUHV.

Stirling University enjoyed a much smoother passage when they defeated Buchan Ladies 7-1. Michelle Russell led the scoring with a hat-trick, Jade Gallon weighed in with a double, while Katy Morris and Rachel Galbraith were also on target for a win which takes their side into the last eight for the first time.

The other tie between Aberdeen and Glasgow Girls was postponed and will be played this coming Sunday.
