 Women's Football English County and other Leagues News - 3 Mar 2017
Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the Reserve Section League Cup Final with a 4-0 semi final victory away to Milton Keynes Dons. Ronnell Humes and Cheryl Williams both scored twice for Spurs whose opponents in the Final are Blackburn Rovers.
Blackburn meanwhile kept themselves in contention in the Northern Division title race after they defeated Hull City 5-0. Alice Adams and Georgia Stevens each netted twice, with Hannah Walsh adding the other to take their side within three points of the leaders.
Stoke City have moved into second place in the Midland Division following their 5-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest. Rachael Ball and Emily Curteis both bagged braces and Abbie Iddenden was also on target. Cardiff City Ladies won 3-1 against Loughborough Foxes and are three points off the pace, Zoe Atkins netting twice along with Monet Legall. Jessica Lundie (2), Jaymee Dudley, Elizabeth Stocks and Ellie White scored the goals as Coventry Utd won 5-0 away to TNS Ladies.
The top two in the Southern Division were not in league action whilst third placed Portsmouth were 4-1 winners away to Queen's Park Rangers. Melissa Lawrence, Kayleigh Tonks, Charmaine True and Lauren Peck all scored for Pompey, with Hannah Hester replying. Crystal Palace are a further two points adrift after drawing 2-2 with C & K Basildon. Sophie Rhodes and Paige Wakefield were on target for Basildon, with Meadow Barton bagging a brace for Palace. West Ham Utd were 2-0 winners away to Lewes thanks to Gabriella Bishop and Stephaney Bent, while Rebecca Scott (2) and Eva Ramsey gave Denham Utd a 3-1 victory over Southampton Saints.
FA WSL Development League Northern Division leaders Liverpool did not play and Birmingham City were unable to take an opportunity to replace them, going down to a 3-1 defeat at Sheffield FC. Shannon Durkin (2) and Suzanne Davies scored for Sheffield, with Shania Hayles replying. Third placed Manchester City also lost, 2-1 to Everton for whom Sasha Rowe and Sophie Charlton were on target. Chloe Allan and Louise Welch netted for Durham Women as they won 2-1 away to Notts County and Aston Villa beat Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-0 thanks to Lucy Shepherd and Hayley Crackle.
Beth Harford led the scoring with a four-goal haul as Millwall Lionesses won 7-2 away to Southern Division table toppers Brighton & Hove Albion. Ella Rutherford (2) and Michelle Young added the others with Valentine Pursey replying twice for the Seagulls whose lead has been trimmed to a single point by Reading FC Women, 5-2 winners over Bristol City thanks to Tasmin de Bunsen's four-goal haul and Beth Burgess. Arsenal were beaten for the first time, 5-3 by Chelsea for whom Nicole Douglas (2), Kenni Thompson, Isabella Sibley and Lauren Pickett were on the scoresheet. Watford meanwhile won 3-2 at London Bees to avenge their first team's defeat to the same opponents, Alana Munro netting twice along with Sandeep Tak.
