Scotland beaten by Korea
 Women's Football Scotland International News - 3 Mar 2017
Scotland 0 Korea Republic 2
Following Wednesday's impressive win over New Zealand, Anna Signeul's side were defeated 2-0 in a tough encounter against Korea Republic ahead of their final group game against Austria.
They will now require a win in that game on Monday and hope other results go their way for a chance to contest in the final.
On Jane Ross's 100th appearance for her country, Korea scored two second half goals to seal a win for the 18th ranked side in the world.
27-year-old Jane came on after 62 minutes for her 100th cap to add another accolade to an already decorated career.
Hailing from Rothesay, Ross is a key part of a successful Manchester City side and was delighted with her most recent success.
She told www.scottishfa.co.uk: "It's always an honour to represent your country so to reach 100 is a huge privilege.
"It was disappointing to lose the game though especially as we played well in spells and created some chances which, on a different day, could have helped win us the match."
Ross's Scotland career has fittingly come full circle after she made her debut in the Cyprus Cup back in 2009.
"It's always great to come to Cyprus and be together as a squad for 12 days. To have games coming in quick succession allows us to work on a number of things."
In the impressive surrounding of the GSP Stadium, the match started slowly with Fiona Brown and Erin Cuthbert showing glimpses of what they're capable of but failing to test the Korean goalkeeper.
At the break, Kirsty Smith came off the bench and although Scotland were much improved they lost a goal within three minutes of the restart.
Chelsea star Ji So-Yun collected the ball on the periphery of the box and let fly with a ferocious shot which flew into the corner.
In response, Scotland looked lively and Fiona Brown went close when she broke free but saw her low, driven shot fly inches wide.
Leanne Ross had an opportunity too when she found herself free of the defence but a lacklustre shot trickled harmlessly wide.
The Koreans then edged further ahead when Kirsty Smith brought down Lee Guemmin in the box and their skipper Cho So Hyun hit the net from the penalty spot.
Scotland's next match is on Monday in Nicosia, kick off 3.30pm (UK time) against Austria.
Shannon Lynn, Frankie Brown (sub Kirsty Smith 45mins), Ifeoma Dieke, Jenny Beattie, Emma Mitchell, Leanne Ross (sub Lisa Evans 62mins), Caroline Weir (sub Lizzie Arnot 62mins), Kim Little, Joanne Love (sub Leanne Crichton 73mins), Erin Cuthbert (sub Jane Ross 62mins), Fiona Brown (sub Christie Murray 78mins). Subs not used: Gemma Fay, Lee Alexander, Hayley Lauder, Rachel McLauchlan.
