England Under-17 have qualified for this summer's UEFA Women's Under-17 Championships after getting through a very tough Elite qualifying round group.
John Griffiths' side opened up against Poland at Telford and captain Lauren Hemp gave them the lead just after the half hour, with Gabriella Ravenscroft adding a second after the break to seal a 2-0 victory. This took them into the second game and Germany were their next opponents, again at AFC Telford Stadium. In a flying start to the game, Emily Syme put England ahead after two minutes and Ravenscroft struck again shortly afterwards. Verena Wieder did pull a goal back but a fine defensive display saw England hold on for a memorable 2-1 win and this put them on the brink of qualification.
England needed to avoid defeat in the final match against Italy at St George's Park and they picked up the point they needed from a goalless draw. There were several nervous moments as Italy struck the woodwork twice and goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was called upon on a number of occasions but England dug in to secure their place in the Finals.
England Under-17 squad: Hannah Hampton, Meg Boydell, Poppy Pattinson, Aimee Palmer, Shannon Cooke, Esme Morgan, Nicole Douglas, Miriael Taylor, Gabriella Ravenscroft, Emily Syme, Lauren Hemp, Grace Neville, Emily Ramsey, Amy Rodgers, Olivia Smith, Ella Rutherford, Jessica Ngunga, Beth O'Donnell.
