Reserve Section Leagues round-up...
Women's Football English County and other Leagues News - 28 Apr 2017
Tottenham Hotspur continued a fantastic season for their club by picking up the Reserve Section League Cup with a 3-1 extra time victory over Blackburn Rovers in the Final. Ronnell Humes scored twice and Amy Makewell the other for Spurs, with Blackburn scoring through Abby Bennett.
The last two matches of the season were played in the Northern Division and both resulted in big wins. Bradford City ran out 5-1 winners away to Brighouse Town with goals from Keavy Smith (2), Rachel Sherrard, Rebecca Sherrard and Sophie Moulden. Guiseley Vixens meanwhile defeated Hull City 7-1 including hat-tricks from LaTayisah Pohtos and Demi Wisher, with Elizabeth White joining them on the scoresheet.
Stoke City extended their Midland Division lead to seven points by winning 6-1 against Coventry Utd. Emily Curteis hit a hat-trick with Courtney Jones (2) and Abbie Iddenden also on target. Leicester City Women maintained their challenge by beating Derby County 9-1, Katie Widdell and Sophie Domingo bagging trebles along with Lekeisha Gumumbs, Summer Pratt and Rosie Axten. Cindy Shaw netted twice, with one apiece from Jaime Duggan, Natalie Morris and Chloe Evans, as Sporting Khalsa won 5-4 away to Nottingham Forest.
In the Southern Division, Charlton Athletic will have to wait and see if they have captured the runners-up spot after finishing their campaign with a goalless draw against Crystal Palace. There was a contrasting scoreline at Southampton Saints where visitors C & K Basildon triumphed 4-3, courtesy of a Lacie Winsor-Claydon hat-trick and Sophie Rhodes.
One match was played in the Northern Division of the FA WSL Development League but an important one it was as the top two, Birmingham City and Liverpool, who were meeting each other. Keeley Davies and Hannah Kenny scored the goals to take Birmingham back to the top of the table with a 2-0 win and two points clear.
Chelsea were also the winners of an important clash in the Southern Division, beating Arsenal 2-1 to open up a lead of ten points. Kenni Thompson and Lauren Pickett were on target for Chelsea, with Chloe Kelly replying.
