Leicester finish third
 Women's Football WPL North News - 17 May 2017
Leicester City Women have finished in third place after scoring six times without reply past Newcastle Utd.
Rosie Axten, Shauna Cossens, Charlotte Greengrass, Natalie Johnson, Holly Morgan and Alex Madden all scored a goal apiece to ensure a highly creditable finish for their side in their first season back in the division following promotion.
Stoke City must settle for fourth place but will be more than satisfied with their final result of the season, holding Champions Blackburn Rovers to a 2-2 draw. After Ashleigh Hayes had given Stoke a first half lead, Blackburn hit back strongly and led at the break thanks to Faye McCoy and Ella Toone. Stoke did not give up though and became only the second team this season to pick up a point at Blackburn when Rachael Ball equalised in the dying minutes.
Runners-up Middlesbrough have had an excellent season and rounded it off on a winning note, 3-0 away to Fylde Ladies. Bianca Owens confirmed herself as the division's top goalscorer and reached the 20 mark for the campaign by netting a first half double, before Ellie Dobson wrapped up the win by scoring the third with twelve minutes remaining.
The East Midlands derby match went the way of Derby County who won 2-1 against Nottingham Forest. Lisa Giampalma opened the scoring for Derby with seven minutes on the clock and after Forest had equalised through Rebecca Kemp on the stroke of half time, Melissa Johnson settled matters in favour of the home side just after the hour mark.
Huddersfield Town meanwhile edged out West Bromwich Albion 2-1 and will finish outside of the bottom two. Albion went ahead through Abi Cottam on the quarter hour but two goals in a three minute spell from Katie Nutter and leading scorer Kate Mallin ensured that Town took the points.
