Blackburn Rovers made a winning start to their defence of the Northern Division title when they defeated newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0.
It was a baptism of fire for Wolves in their first game back in the top flight but after conceding all three goals in the first half, they rallied well after the break. Faye McCoy opened the scoring for Blackburn midway through the half and she added a second four minutes later, before Kelsey Pearson netted the third ahead of the interval.
The biggest win on the opening day went to Huddersfield Town who matched their men's flying start with a 4-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion. Charley Evans and Emily Heckler both scored late in the first half to put Town two ahead at the break, with Kate Mallin bagging a second half double to complete a good start for her side.
Derby County recorded one of the most impressive results of the day, running out 4-1 winners away to Stoke City. The home side began the game well with Hannah Keryakoplis giving them a tenth minute lead but Andi Bell equalised just after the half hour and Nicole Ledgister netted a quickfire double to put them in control at half time, before Kelly Kennaugh rounded off the scoring six minutes into the second half.
Fylde Ladies also had a good day as they won 3-0 away to last season's runners-up Middlesbrough. After a goalless first half, Hannah Forster opened the scoring early in the second half and she was joined on the scoresheet by Veatriki Sarri and Lauren Davies to wrap up the points for the Coasters.
A goal each side of half time proved to be enough to give Leicester City Women a 2-0 victory over Bradford City. Rosie Axten gave them the lead three minutes before the interval and five minutes after the restart, Charlotte Greengrass netted the second.
Nottingham Forest's new look side were up against newcomers Guiseley Vixens and were 1-0 winners against the Northern Division One title winners. Hazzana Parnell settled matters with the only goal of the game, just before the quarter hour mark.
